The other bowl game.
Even hardcore football fans may not be able to endure hours and hours of Super Bowl 50's pregame prep that oc'cup'y TV screens from 10 a.m. Sunday until kickoff at 5:30 p.m. on CBS. If a break is needed, there's always Puppy Bowl XII, from 2-4 p.m. on Animal Planet. The furry four-leggers on this admittedly silly show are so engaging that they'll stop just about anybody passing through the viewing area in their tracks, at least for a few minutes, no matter how many snacks they have in hand. Here's the setup: The starting lineup involves 49 cute-as-all-get-out pups competing for the title of Most Valuable Puppy. There's a pregame show, puppy profiles, a fantasy game, a dog's-eye view through puppy cams, adoption tales, and referee perspectives. New this year is the introduction of the Puppy Bowl Hall of Fame to honor legacy players (and promote the adoption of older animals along with puppies and kittens). Cat lovers, don't despair: This year features a Kitty Halftime Show having something to do with cats meandering around historic landmarks in San Francisco. The goofiness is for a good cause: Puppy Bowl XII's participants come from 44 shelters and rescue groups across the U.S. in an effort to promote the importance of animal adoptions.
