A LITTLE HUMOR FOR THE WEEK

His Speech Betrays Him
A teacher was reprimanding a teenager in the hall. "Do you mind telling me whose class you're cutting this time?" "Like," the young teen replied, "uh, see, okay, like it's like I really don't like think like that's really important, y'know, like because I'm y'know, like I don't like get anything outta it." The perceptive teacher smiled and said, "It's English class, isn't it?"

Faith Of A Child

The minister's little six-year-old girl had been so naughty during the week that her mother decided to give her the worst kind of punishment. She told her she couldn't go to the Sunday School Picnic on Saturday. When the day came, her mother felt she had been too harsh and changed her mind. When she told the little girl she could go to the picnic, the child's reaction was one of gloom and unhappiness. "What's the matter? I thought you'd be glad to go to the picnic." her mother said. "It's too late!" the little girl said. "I've already prayed for rain."

No Compliment

I was working in the sun all day, putting finishing touches on the new deck outside my house. My sister pulled into the driveway, greeted me, and looked over my work. "Wow," she gushed, "you're an expert." Feeling complimented and satisfied, but trying not to seem egotistical, I responded, "Once you get going, it's pretty easy!" She looked puzzled and, wondering if I'd misunderstood her, I asked, "What did you just say?" She replied, "I said, your neck's burnt!"

  • I had to call the plumbers out with a problem with our water supply. I don't think they were very good. They said I needed a new pipe.  I don't even smoke.
  • I've just had a door-to-door salesman at the door. He said, "I'm selling barometers, but I'm not going to force you — no pressure."
  • I am trying to get fit. I decided to take up skiing, but I went downhill after that.

HOW'[S YOUR ENERGY

5 foods to boost your energy if you got a bad night's sleep.

More than one-third of Americans sleep fewer than seven hours a night, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And that can mess with your ability to function the next day. In fact, a National Sleep Foundation poll found 45 percent of Americans said a bad night's sleep got in the way of their daily activities at least once in the past week. Not logging enough zzzs has negative side effects that go beyond just making you feel sluggish. People who regularly miss out on sleep are more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes, obesity, hypertension and depression. They also have a decreased quality of life and productivity and increased chances of making errors at work and on the road.  Poor sleep has also been linked to weight gain because sleep deprivation messes with hunger hormones, so you end up hungrier and more likely to reach for fatty and sugary foods, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Of course, there are some days when getting seven-plus hours of sleep just isn't possible. That's when you should reach for energy-boosting foods to help you get through the day, starting with these five. 1. Whole grains B vitamins are key to helping the body convert food into fuel, which translates to more energy for you, Brigitte Zeitlin, MPH, RD, CDN, founder of BZ Nutrition, said.  Having low levels of B vitamins, can also make it tough to concentrate and put you in a bad mood, she said. So where can you find B vitamins? Whole grains. Lisa Hayim, MS, RD, founder of The Well Necessities Nutrition , suggested replacing your go-to cereal breakfast with quinoa porridge for long-lasting energy rather than a quick burst. "Regular cereals are pumped with sugar and contain no protein," she said. "Quinoa, on the other hand, is a naturally gluten-free grain that is packed with protein for sustained energy.  2. Eggs Eggs - specifically egg yolks - are also loaded with B vitamins, Hayim said. Plus, they're packed with protein, which helps keep your energy levels up . " They will help you stay energized and focused for hours," Zeitlin said. Prepare your eggs however you'd like, and for a double boost, enjoy them on top of a slice of whole wheat toast so you incorporate whole grains, too, Zeitlin suggested. 3. Water This is technically not a food, but "when you're feeling sluggish after a rough night, staying hydrated and well fueled can really help get you through the day," Zeitlin said. It's a much better option than sugar-packed soda, lattes and energy drinks. "Those give you a false sense of energy, but ultimately leave you nursing a sugar crash and feeling even more drained and fatigued than before," Zeitlin said. Shoot for 10 to 12 8-ounce glasses of water a day, and load up on water-packed veggies, such as cucumbers and tomatoes, Hayim said. YOU REALLY CAN SLEEP YOUR WAY TO THE TOP, STUDY FINDS 4. Almonds (or almond butter) Zeitlin recommended incorporating raw almonds or almond butter into your afternoon snack. "They are a good source of protein and fiber that will stabilize your blood sugar and keep your energy levels up and steady," she said. Eat a handful of almonds with an apple or top your apple slices with 2 tablespoons of almond butter. 5. Salmon "Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which can help elevate your energy, boost your mood, combat anxiety, and improve focus and cognition," Zeitlin said. That's exactly what you need if you're looking to make it through an afternoon that's jam-packed with meetings. Add salmon to a spinach salad at lunch to tap into the benefits, Zeitlin suggested.

ARE YOU GOING TO ENJOY A FEW HOT DOGS THIS MEMORIAL DAY

Love hot dogs? Surprising frankfurter facts.

This Memorial Day, Americans will gather to remember the men and women who died to protect our freedoms. And many of those observant Americans will be paying their respects while eating a whole mess of hot dogs at backyard barbecue. The hot dog is, after all, one of the most relished foods in all of American cuisine, so it makes perfect sense that citizens would want to savor the mildly-spiced sausages during one of our nation's most patriotic holidays. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (yes, it's a real organization), "peak hot dog season" actually begins on Memorial Day, meaning that many Americans will likely get their first frankfurter fix of the year this weekend. We've collected five pieces of frankfurter trivia to tide you over until this weekend's first salty, savory bite: 1. Don't call a hot dog a "sandwich. In a 2015 press release , the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council decreed that the hot dog is not a sandwich, despite it having many of the same components as most sandwiches. "Limiting the hot dog's significance by saying it's 'just a sandwich' category is like calling the Dalai Lama 'just a guy,'" stated NHDSC president Janet Rikey, aka the "Queen of Wien.   The USDA's guidelines , however, seem to suggest that hot dogs are indeed sandwiches, as they consist of "two slices of bread or the top and bottom sections of a bun that enclose meat or poultry. But as the NHDSC countered in their press release, "terminology changes" with the times, and hot dogs no longer fit as snugly into the "sandwich" category as they do a split-top bun. "While we thank the USDA for their careful regulation and inspection of our products, regulatory brevity is not their strength," the NHDSC said. 2. Several people actually purchased the "world's most expensive hot dog. The now-closed Tokyo Dog foot cart in Seattle holds the Guinness World Record for offering the world's most expensive commercially available hot dog back in 2014. The frank - or the "Juuni Ban," as it was called - cost $169, and consisted of a foot-long smoked cheese bratwurst topped with Maitake mushrooms, Wagyu beef, foie gras, shaved black truffles, $250-per-ounce caviar, Japanese mayo, Teriyaki grilled onions and a brioche bun. According to Tokyo Dog's old press page , the cart sold six of the record-breaking Juuni Ban dogs in total, with all of the proceeds going to the American Red Cross. World Record Hot Dog Attempt @FremontSunMarkt ! All proceeds benefit Red Cross!  3. Most of us will never get the chance to drive the Weinermobile. The job of driving the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is reserved solely for graduating college seniors, preferably with a bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism or communications. Furthermore, the position only lasts for one year, from June to June, before drivers (aka "Hotdoggers") are replaced with a new batch of college grads. Each driver is also required to undergo about 40 hours of training before getting behind the wheel of the 27-foot vehicle, though that hasn't prevented one driver from accidentally accelerating into a house and crashing the Wienermobile into a stranger's deck and garage?  4. William "The Refrigerator" Perry isn't as good at eating hot dogs as he looks. It's well-known that competitors at the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island consume an unseemly amount of hot dogs- the current record-holder, Joey Chestnut, ate 70 in just ten minutes in 2016 - but rarely do any of them make news for how little they manage to eat. The lone exception, arguably, is William "The Refrigerator" Perry, who competed in 2003 as a "celebrity contestant. Despite eating 12 hot dogs in 12 minutes during the qualifying rounds, Perry only managed to eat four hot dogs , and quit after just five minutes. The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest hasn't held a "celebrity contestant" since. 5. Nobody knows for sure how hot dogs got their name. The etymology of the term "hot dog" is unclear, but the Oxford English Dictionary posits that the name was "probably influenced by a popular belief that the sausages contained dog meat. The Online Etymology Dictionary even adds that these beliefs were "occasionally justified" - a statement bolstered by an early 20 th -Century reports by the New York Times and the United States Department of Commerce on the consumption of such meats.  Bruce Kraig, a "hot dog historian" and professor at Roosevelt University in Illinois, also offered an alternate theory, telling the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council that the German immigrants who popularized frankfurters in North America were also responsible for popularizing dachshunds, and the name "probably began as a joke about the Germans' small, long, thin dogs.

THE RUMORS ARE ALREADY FLYING

The iPhone 8 could unlock when you press the screen There have been conflicting rumors about what will happen to the iPhone 8's fingerprint sensor, but a recent report says it's going in the display.  Computer Bild Phones by Gordon Gottsegen May 26, 2017

Suspected for a while that Apple will give the home button the boot on the iPhone 8 , but that would mean Apple's fingerprint sensor would have to find a new home. The potential workaround? Put the optical fingerprint scanner into the phone's display. That's what DigiTimes reports, citing China's Economic Daily News. (The source: Apple supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, according to the report.) Enlarge Image iPhone 8 renders imagine what the phone would look like sans home button. Apple's 10th anniversary iPhone is expected to shake up the phone world with changes to its hardware and software. If the iPhone 8 (or whatever it'll be called) is the first to innovate this way, it's a sure bet every other phone maker will follow. The iPhone 8's fingerprint sensor, which also controls TouchID pressure sensitivity, has been hotly contested in conflicting rumors. Some alleged factory renders show that Apple could move the sensor to the back of the phone, similar to what the Galaxy S8 did when it shrank its front bezels. Others believe that the sensor will be integrated into the display . However, reports surfaced that Apple may have trouble making this happen because the technology might not be there yet. In addition, the report claims that the iPhone 8 will get a screen ratio of 18.5:9, similar to other rumors . If true, this would give the next iPhone an almost 2:1 ratio, which means its dimensions could look a lot like the LG G6 or Galaxy S8. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment. .

JUST A FEW LAUGHS

The Intercom
My friend's son worked at a fast-food restaurant when he was in high school. One night while he was manning the drive-thru, a customer told him that the intercom wasn't working properly. My friend's son went about filling the order while a female co-worker fiddled with the intercom. She asked, "Is that okay now?" "Well, no," the customer replied. "Now you sound like a girl."

The Surly Waitress

Bill and Doug went into a diner that looked as though it had seen better days. As they slid in to a booth, Bill wiped some crumbs from the seat. Then he took a napkin and wiped some moisture from the table. The waitress came over and asked if they wanted some menus. "No thanks," said Doug. "I'll just have a cup of black coffee." "I'll have black coffee too," Bill said. "And please make sure the cup is clean." The waitress shot him a nasty look. She turned and marched off into the kitchen. Two minutes later, she was back. "Two cups of black coffee," she announced. "Which one of you wanted the clean cup?"

Shorts
  • Yesterday, I ate a clock. It was very time consuming. Especially when I went back for seconds.
  • Today I went into a bookstore and asked where the self-help section was. The clerk replied, "If I told you, wouldn't that defeat the purpose?"
  • Why put off 'til tomorrow what you'll never do anyway?
Parental Discretion

A young man looking to get married asked his friend. "Every woman I bring home to meet my parents, my mother doesn't like." "Oh, that's easy," his pal replied. "All you have to do is find someone who is just like your mother." "I did that already," he said, "and that one my father didn't like."

Illustrating The Need

When I asked my friend if she was planning to attend church, she just shook her head. "I haven't gone in a long time," she said. "Besides, it's too late for me. I've probably already broken all seven commandments."

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT CATARACTS

Cataracts linked, in part, to the sun . Q: What are cataracts made of and what causes them to form in the eyes?

A: Cataracts are made of the same soluble proteins and water that are found in the normal lenses of the eyes, but arranged differently so that they interfere with the path of light, clouding vision and scattering light. The lens forms in the uterus and its protein strands are not equipped with cellular mechanisms for cleanup and repair. With age, the proteins may become misfolded and clump together, according to a 2012 review article in the journal Trends in Molecular Medicine. Chaperone proteins that keep the strands in order can fail, and the strands are also subject to chemical processes, including oxidation, that can change their color. Researchers have found several possible causes for the deterioration and jumbling of the proteins, with much recent work focusing on the effects of ultraviolet A and B radiation. A 2014 study in The Journal of Biological Chemistry outlined the chemical changes suspected to take place upon prolonged exposure to such rays. Other risk factors for cataracts include some diseases, like diabetes, as well as smoking and excessive use of alcohol.

THE OLD MAY STILL BE THE BEST

The 5 drugstore beauty products that have withstood the test of time.

The beauty industry is constantly evolving with new trends, technologies and cutting-edge formulas emerging on a near-daily basis. While we can thank innovation for the birth of high-tech beauty (think: shade-matching foundation and long-lasting lipstick), sometimes things are best left alone.  In the beauty world, these are the classics: The old-school cosmetics that have remained best-sellers over the years, sans upgrades. Few products remain in favor long enough to become true classics - those that do deserve to be recognized. From cleansers to vintage cosmetics, these beloved beauty buys have withstood the test of time: Pretty much the most useful beauty product of all time- Rosebud Salve. This stuff is amazing and we suggest keeping it close at all times...it's calming, heals irritation and even soothes the sting of minor burns. Put a little on chapped lips, elbows, or knees to condition and relieve dryness.  This all-purpose salve can be applied on any skin that needs a little extra moisture, but it's most commonly used is as an ultra-rich lip balm. Lightly tinted and smelling faintly of roses, this stunning salve remains a favorite amongst beauty buffs and makeup artists, even today.  A #perfectplace for POND'S? The #vintage vanity...because clean, hydrated skin never goes out of style. Where do you place your POND'S?  This rich cream formula removes makeup, cleanses and moisturizes the skin without causing breakouts or irritation (all for under $10). Though the brand has since released a handful of different versions of its classic moisturizer , the original formula remains the best. The one, the only, the iconic #greatlash mascara.  Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, $6 A mainstay in the beauty aisle, Maybelline's iconic Great Lash Mascara has remained a best-seller for nearly 50 years. The non-clumpy, ultra-black formula makes any lashes look old Hollywood glamorous. You are versatile and multi-faceted. The same should be said about your skincare. Noxzema  Noxzema's classic cream cleanser, known for its signature eucalyptus tingle, removes dirt, makeup and excess oil without over-drying the skin. It isn't high tech (in fact, the formula hasn't changed in over 100 years), but it works. IS GREEN JUICE THE SECRET TO BETTER SKIN?  yardley #london #soap  Yardley London English Lavender Moisturizing Soap Bar, $1 First created in 1770, this soothing lavender-scented bar soap is infused with essential oils for what might be the most relaxing shower ever. That's almost 250 years as a best-selling household staple.  ?    ?????  Honorable Mention: Revlon 'Cherries In The Snow' Nail Enamel, $4 Though Revlon's formulas have changed over the years, this iconic color - which made its debut as the first-ever opaque nail polish way back in 1932 - has remained the same for a whopping 85 years. The classic pink-red shade (rumored to be poet Sylvia Plath's favorite lip color) has been hailed as influential in everything from the rise of the modern manicure to the birth of the classic red lip. When it comes to beauty icons, "Cherries in the Snow" might just be the holy grail.

GETTING RID OF THE SQUIRRELS

 Solving the Squirrel Problem
There were four churches and a synagogue in a small town: a Presbyterian church, a Baptist church,
a Methodist church, a Catholic church, and a Jewish synagogue. Each church and the synagogue had a problem with squirrels.

The Presbyterian church  called a meeting to decide what to do about their squirrels.
After much prayer and consideration, they concluded the squirrels were predestined to be there
and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will.

At the Baptist church  the squirrels had taken an interest in the baptistery.
The deacons met and decided to put a water slide on the baptistery and let the squirrels drown themselves.
The squirrels liked the slide and, unfortunately, knew instinctively how to swim
so twice as many squirrels showed up the following week.

The Methodist church  decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creatures.
So, they humanely trapped their squirrels and set them free near the Baptist Church .
Two weeks later the squirrels were back when the Baptists took down the water slide.

But the Catholic Church  came up with a very creative strategy.
They baptized all the squirrels and consecrated them as members of the church.
Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter.

Not much was heard from the Jewish synagogue
they took the first squirrel and circumcised him.
They haven't seen a squirrel since.

SOMETHING TO TICKLE YOUR FUNNY BONE

Taking It Literally
Young David was playing on the floor singing at the top of his lungs. A neighbor came over to visit and said, "David, would you like to sing on the radio?" David looked up at her very solemnly and said, "No." "Why ever not?" she asked. "Because," he said, "I might fall off."

Compensation

Steve phoned his dentist when he received a huge bill. "I'm shocked!" he complained. "This is three times what you normally charge." "Yes, I know," said the dentist. "But you yelled so loud, you scared away two other patients."

Kid Sayings
  • "Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and the world laughs at you." (From Rob P, age 8.)
  • "Doctors automatically know what's wrong with you. They have a sick sense." (From Beau M., age 10.)
Doing As Told

I had just placed a cake on my kitchen counter and told my young son to keep his hands off the cake. I left the room and returned a short time later to find my son on a bar stool with both hands behind his back – but his mouth was on the cake. He was obeying me. He did not put his hands on the cake. I just hadn't thought to mention his mouth!

MOTHER'S DAY IS TOMORROW

Tomorrow is MOTHER’S DAY, so if you haven’t thought about mom yet it’s about time.  Moms sacrifice a lot for their kids and are worthy of your love and respect.  A card or a hug is always nice but maybe even something tangible like cleaning her house or yard.  I bet she would appreciate that.  What ever you decide make it something she will appreciate.  Time is running out.

If your mom has gone on, maybe you would like to reflect on your memories of her or perhaps share with another mom that is close to you.

MOMS, YOU’RE GREAT

SOME FUNNIES FOR THE WEEK

Mother's Day Surprise
Two children ordered their mother to stay in bed early one Mother's Day morning. As she lay there looking forward to breakfast in bed, the smell of bacon floated up from the kitchen. But after a good long wait she finally went downstairs to investigate. She found them both sitting at the table eating bacon and eggs. "It's a surprise for Mother's Day," one explained. "We decided to cook our own breakfast."

Things a Mom Doesn't Want to Hear
  • I swallowed a goldfish.
  • Your lipstick works better than crayons.
  • Does grape juice leave a stain?
  • Look, I painted the front door!
  • The principal called...
  • What's it cost to fix a window?
  • The dog doesn't like dressing up in your clothes.
  • Has anyone seen my earthworms?
Turning Tables

We were standing in line outside a busy restaurant. The harried hostess was checking to find out how many people were in each group. "Party of two," the woman behind us said to her, "and could we please have Michelle?" Annoyed looks turned to knowing smiles when she added, "Michelle is my daughter, and just once in my life I want her to wait on me!"

Mother's Day Wish

A mother asked her small son what he would like for his birthday. "I want a little brother," the boy said. "Oh my, that's such a big wish," said the mother. "Why do you want a little brother?" "Well," the boy said, "there's only so much I can blame on the dog."

SOME GOOD BEDTIME SNACKS

. 7 healthy midnight snacks to help you get back to sleep.

Going to bed hungry and waking up with a rumbling tummy in the middle of the night is no fun. So if you're hungry before bedtime, is it OK to grab a snack? Yes, but it should be on the smaller side (100 to 200 calories), versus a meal. "Larger portions of food late at night can lead to bloating, and can cause or worsen reflux and heartburn," Alissa Rumsey MS, RD, owner of Alissa Rumsey Nutrition and Wellness in New York City, said.  And not everything is fair game: Opt for picks higher in carbs and protein, versus ones loaded with fat or fiber - as you'll want to digest your snack quickly and get back to sleep. "Carbohydrates cause insulin to release, which helps tryptophan enter your brain and bring on sleep, while the protein will help keep you satiated and ensure you won't wake up hungry in the middle of the night," Rumsey said. Give these seven dietitian-approved bedtime snacks a nosh: 1. Hardboiled egg "Keep a stash of hardboiled eggs in your fridge, and they will come in handy for your late-night snacks," said Rumsey, who suggested slicing the egg, sprinkling it with black pepper, and placing it atop whole-wheat toast. "The whole-wheat bread provides carbohydrates, while the egg contains high-quality protein. The egg also offers a bonus boost of vitamin D, an important nutrient for building and maintaining strong bones.  2. Roasted chickpeas Whip up a batch of these beans during the day, and you'll have a sleep-helping snack at the ready.  A half-'cup' portion offers carbohydrates and tryptophan to help you sleep, as well as filling protein. 3. Raisin bread "When I have a hankering for a late-night snack, I usually want something sweet," Natalie Rizzo, MS, RD, owner of Nutrition ā la Natalie in New York City, said. . "Rather than indulging in something loaded with sugar, I reach for a slice of Dave's Killer Bread Raisin the Roof! whole-grain bread. Unlike typical raisin breads made with white flour, this one contains organic whole grains like rolled oats. Top it with a tablespoon of peanut butter for extra protein and healthy fats if you're really hungry.  4. Trail mix Make your own single-serve portion in seconds: Combine ž 'cup' dried fruit with a dozen almonds. "The dried fruit provides carbohydrates, while almonds are rich in magnesium, a mineral needed for quality sleep," Rumsey said. "If your body's magnesium levels are too low, it can be harder to stay asleep. 5. Sweet popcorn If you're hankering for chocolate at bedtime, try dressing up your popcorn with cocoa powder. This is a favorite of Rizzo's. "Since chocolate has caffeine that may keep me awake, I opt for cocoa powder sprinkled on top of popcorn," she said. "This sweet and savory snack has just 40 calories per 'cup'. Give her Spicy Cocoa Popcorn a Try.  6. String cheese and berries Make a mini snack plate of string cheese, plus a handful of berries. The cheese provides protein to keep your tummy from mid-sleep rumblings - and the berries offer carbohydrates. Plus, they also happen to be rich in health-helping antioxidants. 7. Mini sandwiches "I love to make little bite-sized sandwiches out of whole-wheat crackers," Rizzo said. "My go-to is cottage cheese and berries for a mixture of salty and sweet. This late-night snack is healthy and light. The whole-wheat crackers provide quality carbohydrates, while the cottage cheese is packed with protein.

YOU'LL NOT BELIEVE THIS-READ AT YOUR OWN RISK-DOES A BUGGER A DAY KEEP THE DOCTOR AWAY

Why picking your nose may actually be good for you.

New research has revealed eating boogers may be good for your health. Scientists at a number of prestigious universities including Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) now say parents should not actively discourage their kids from picking their noses. BABIES NEED EXERCISE TOO: AN EASY AGE-BASED GUIDE FOR PARENTS TO FOLLOW They claim ingesting boogers can be good for teeth, as well as overall health as they are packed with a "rich reservoir of good bacteria. According to the research, published in the journal of the American Society for Microbiology, not only can snot keep bacteria from sticking to teeth - it may also help the immune system fight back against respiratory infections, stomach ulcers and HIV. The scientists are now in the process of creating a synthetic mucus toothpaste and chewing gum, in a bid to recreate the unbelievable benefits of snot.  Writing in the journal, co-author Scott Napper, who is a professor of biochemistry at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, said: "Nature pushes us to do different things because it is to our advantage to have certain behaviors, to consume different types of foods. "So maybe when you have an urge to pick your nose and eat it, you should just go with nature. "From an evolutionary perspective, we evolved under very dirty conditions and maybe this desire to keep our environment and our behaviors sterile isn't actually working to our advantage. And Austrian lung specialist Professor Friedrich Bischinger, who also helped author the report, said the study found people who pick their noses and eat what they find tend to be happier and healthier.  He explained: "Eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body's immune system. "Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do. "In terms of the immune system, the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine.

A LITTLE HUMOR FOR YOU

Passing the Test Two paramedics were dispatched to check on a 92-year-old man who had become disoriented. They decided to take him to the hospital for evaluation. En route, with the siren blaring, they questioned the man to determine his level of awareness. Leaning close, one asked, "Sir, do you know what we're doing right now?" The old man slowly looked up at him and then gazed out the ambulance window. "Oh," he replied, "I'd say about 50, maybe 55."

God's Address

During "children's time" in the worship service, the kids came forward and the pastor, wanting to teach about prayer, asked, "How can we talk with God?" The pastor produced paper and envelope and said, "Maybe we can write God a letter. Does anyone know God's address?" The group said no. Then the pastor pulled out his cell phone and said, "Maybe we can telephone God. Does anyone know God's phone number?" The response was again negative. Then the pastor displayed his lap top computer and said, "Maybe we can send God an e-mail!" A little five-year-old perked up and enthusiastically said, "Yeah, try www-dot-God-dot-com!"

Now, Wait

Whenever my aunt went to the doctor, she would complain to me about the long delay she always endured. One day, when my aunt's name was finally called, she was asked to step on the scale. "I need to get your weight today," said the nurse. Without a moment's hesitation, my aunt replied, "One hour and 45 minutes!"

Optical Problem

I took my five-year-old grandson to the optometrist to pick up his new glasses. The glasses were prescribed "to help him read and be able to see the computer better." When we got back home, he got on the computer to play a game. In a few minutes he called me and said there was something wrong with his glasses. I asked him what was the problem and he said, "I still can't read."

NEED TO LOSE A LITTLE WEIGHT?

Lose weight with these  7 little changes.

Losing weight shouldn't mean giving up all the foods you love. Try these small changes, and you may notice big results. 1. Spice up your coffee. With cinnamon, that is. Sweetening your drink with a dash of cinnamon instead of sugar and sugary creamer can save upward of 80 calories per drink. 2. Have egg-y French toast (or pancakes). Order your eggs over-easy, and use that delicious egg yolk to add moisture to your breakfast - no butter or syrup needed! You'll get a bonus boost of protein, too. Need some recipe inspo? Try this egg-topped Protein-Rich Cherry French Toast, with no added sugar.  3. Make hummus your new favorite condiment. Next time you have a baked potato, top it with hummus instead of butter. "Don't dismiss this until you have tried it," Keri Gans, RDN, author of "The Small Change Diet," said.  "Creamy hummus adds a lot of flavor to a baked potato, with a lot less calories than butter. That's 77 calories less per Tablespoon, to be exact. "The bonus is you also get fiber and protein from the chickpeas," Gans added. 4. Turn on slow jams during dinner. "The speed of music influences how fast we eat," Christy Brissette, MS, RD, owner of 80 Twenty Nutrition in Toronto, said.  "Quick-serve restaurants sometimes use this trick to get people in and out of their seats faster. Playing slow music could have the opposite effect - helping you eat more slowly and realize you're full faster.  5. Vinegar down your salad dressing. Dilute your favorite salad dressing with balsamic vinegar. "You'll pucker up for the intense flavor, while practically slashing your calories in half," Bonnie Taub-Dix, RDN, author of "Read It Before You Eat It" said.  6. Eat fragrant cheese. Yes, this means you can eat cheese and lose weight! "But choose the super flavorful varieties so a little goes a long way," Brissette advised. "Try Manchego or Parmesan, so just a sprinkle adds tons of flavor to your salad or pasta. You won't need those big chunks of cheese you might be tempted to add when using less flavorful versions.  7. Add beans to Bolognese. "I am a die-hard meat lover, but I love to add black beans to a Bolognese so I can reduce the amount of chopped sirloin used," Gans said. This not only cuts calories - it also adds health benefits from the beans, like helping to decrease your risk of heart disease
