WSB is now on You tube! Check out the link in the article

WSB’s new YouTube series offers instruction, insight

“What are the classes like?” is one of the most frequent questions we hear from potential clients and their state counselors, as well the general public. So in an effort to shed some light on what World Services for the Blind does, we’ve launched a new series of videos on our YouTube channel.

When Assistive Technology Instructor teacher Rebecca Reid and some of her students tried to find examples of using JAWS with Microsoft programs, they discovered that either the videos didn’t offer much instruction, or that JAWS couldn’t be heard very well.Rebecca thought WSB could fill that void by making its own videos. Not only did she see an opportunity to teach her students in a new way, but to also create a resource for future students, too.

The first two videos, featuring recent graduate Dean Ingalls, are available on the channel now. In each, Ingalls teaches a step-by-step lesson for specific Excel tasks. The combination of Dean’s instruction and the JAWS output gives users who are blind or visually impaired a clear idea of some of the things they’ll learn in ATI, while sighted individuals are able to see for themselves how blind people are harnessing the power of technology to use the same computers and software they use themselves.

More videos with ATI students are in the works, and over time all of WSB’s programs will have the opportunity to be featured on the site in ways that will educate the many different members of our audience. Stay tuned!

Happy Friday 3/14/14

Hello everyone,
Looks like we are in for a wet weekend, the forecast is for two inches of rain in Central Arkansas. It appears the rain will be on Saturday and Sunday so I suggest any errands need your attention today. I am hoping to get the Wal Mart run in before the rain. There is nothing more miserable than a Wal Mart shopping trip in the rain. Employees always have the good parking spots and trekking across a five acre parking lot in the rain with a wobbling cart is pure misery!

Ms. Helen and I held a training at Presbyterian village yesterday. We saw many old friends and met some real characters. The energy level of some of those folks is incredible.

I hope you have a great day. Do a good deed!
Until tomorrow,
Dr. Janet

Yummy recipes posted last night.

Simple corn bake - I love this!

  • 1 (15 1/4-oz.) can whole kernel corn, drained
  • 1 (14 3/4-oz.) can cream-style corn
  • 1 (8-oz.) package corn muffin mix (recommended: Jiffy)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the 2 cans of corn, corn muffin mix, sour cream, and melted butter. Pour into a greased 9 by 13-inch casserole dish.
  3. Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and top with Cheddar. Return to oven for 5 to 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Let stand for at least 5 minutes and then serve warm.

Tuesday, March 11

Good morning everyone!
Another beautiful day on the horizon. Can you believe the weather yesterday? What a great start to the week! Yesterday was 72 degrees and today may hit 78! Please get out and enjoy this nice weather but don't overdo. It is very easy to strain, strip, bend, break, or otherwise injure body parts that are not used to moving. Take it easy if you venture out to do physical labor.

I spoke to The Pulaski Heights Lions club last night. A very nice and cordial group. Y'all know me, I will ask anyone to help our cause! I am still asking for crockpots. Several clubs have agreed to provide them but I don't have the actual pots yet.

Add this one to the prayer list:  Toni called last night to let me know that Sam was being transported to the Heart Hospital in Little Rock. We wish him a speedy recovery. I will update when I know more about his condition.

Have a great day.
Until tomorrow,
Dr. Janet
