“What are the classes like?” is one of the most frequent questions we hear from potential clients and their state counselors, as well the general public. So in an effort to shed some light on what World Services for the Blind does, we’ve launched a new series of videos on our YouTube channel.
When Assistive Technology Instructor teacher Rebecca Reid and some of her students tried to find examples of using JAWS with Microsoft programs, they discovered that either the videos didn’t offer much instruction, or that JAWS couldn’t be heard very well.Rebecca thought WSB could fill that void by making its own videos. Not only did she see an opportunity to teach her students in a new way, but to also create a resource for future students, too.
The first two videos, featuring recent graduate Dean Ingalls, are available on the channel now. In each, Ingalls teaches a step-by-step lesson for specific Excel tasks. The combination of Dean’s instruction and the JAWS output gives users who are blind or visually impaired a clear idea of some of the things they’ll learn in ATI, while sighted individuals are able to see for themselves how blind people are harnessing the power of technology to use the same computers and software they use themselves.
More videos with ATI students are in the works, and over time all of WSB’s programs will have the opportunity to be featured on the site in ways that will educate the many different members of our audience. Stay tuned!
