THE AMAZON ECHO DOT

AMAZON ECHO DOT

There is a devise available  that has great promise for helping the blind and visually impaired.  it is called ECHO DOT.  The DOT has a very clear female voice and can do many helpful applications just by speaking to it.  The Dot can spell for you, look up information on Wicapedia, play games, find business phone numbers, set timers and alarms, and find recipes.  It will tell jokes and bed time stories.  You can create
shopping lists, todo lists, and reminders.   The DOT can give news up dates and give you special information about the day.  It can give the weather for the day.  the DOT can also play requested music.  It can read books, and so much more.  But for the DOT to work, it will be necessary for you to have internet and wifi service.  You will also need to have a smart devise, such as an iPhone or iPad that you can down load the Alexa apt to that will be needed to run the DOT.  Although, we have found the app to be some what clumsy when using voice over.  This is a devise that has good potential for blind and partially sighted persons.  Especially those who aren’t very  computer savvy.  You might need a bit of sighted help when first  setting up the DOT, but after the set up, all you have to do is speak to the DOT.  Once set up, this devise can be both enjoyable and beneficial.
